Friday Fascination

Winter Wonder Man Blog Hop

Sexy athletic body

Happy Friday, everyone! The simple fact it’s Friday is tough to beat, but the chance to win a gift card for $50 and a butt-load of other prizes? Oh. Yeah. All you have to do is sit back in your recliner with beverage of choice and tip-tap on your laptop.

By now, you should know the subject, but in case you took a snooze and forgot, I’ll remind you.

WHAT MAKES A HERO CURL YOUR TOES (IN A GOOD WAY)?

I love lists, so here are my five top traits a hero must own to earn a piece of my heart.

OG1. DAMAGED. Sure, a good guy is hard to find, but when he’s too good, I get a case of the yawns. Not that I like thugs, but a bit of tortured brooding makes my pulse thump-a-thump.

2. SENSE OF HUMOR. Even if it takes a while for him to warm up, sarcasm gets me every time.

3. SKILLS. Nunchuck skills. Computer-hacking skills. Oh, wait. We’re not talking Napoleon Dynamite, but the kind of guy who knows how to get it done with swords, knives, or even a paralyzing death-glare. Fangs are acceptable too (ahem, Eric Northman).

4. DEVOTION. Once he finds his one and only, he’s driven to possess her, sometimes even to the point of obsession, and will sacrifice everything for her.

5. CONFIDENCE. No whiny-boys allowed. He knows what he wants and will do whatever he must to get it, even if there’s some trickery involved.

So who is the latest character who’s made your toes curl? For me, it’s Wrath from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. I CANNOT believe I haven’t read this series before now! Comment to be entered for the grand prize gift certificate (don’t forget to leave your email addy). Extra-brownie points for my prize for each of these:  following me on Twitter, signing up for my blog, liking me on FB, and/or signing up for my newsletter. I promise I won’t flood you with frivolous junk – I’m too busy. 🙂

Since my book Wonderfully Wicked won’t be released until April/May of this year, I’m giving away one of the following books (winner’s choice) – all of which contain heroes who made my toes curl. Good luck!

My favorite hero is Ash from The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. He had such a tragic past but he was capable of feeling love.

Thanks for dropping by, Juana! I’ve yet to read the Dark Hunter series – but I want to! Good luck in the hop. 🙂

Don’t even get me started on Dark Lover, Jill. I think I found a new addiction in the BDB series! Thanks for popping in and good luck!

  3. Lori Ha says:

Recently it is Dax from Christine Feehan’s Dark Storm. I have really enjoyed this series. Wrath is nice too 😉 I really enjoyed that series and have those books in my personal library.

Thanks and have a wonderful week!

    1. CJ Burright says:

Hi, Lori! I haven’t read any Christine Feehan, but Dax is the name of the contagonist in my current WIP, so he gets my vote. 🙂 I’m seriously looking forward to Z’s story in the BDB. That’s one tortured boy. Good luck in the hop and have a fantabulous weekend!

  4. I’m pretty sure Oregon doesn’t cross the International Date Line, but perhaps you’re so far North in Oregon that it’s already Friday. Here in the Sacramento area, it’s still only Thursday.

But, whatever, I’ll play along no matter what the day.

I like slightly tortured men as well, but sense of humor is much higher on my list. And loyalty (devotion) is a must. I’m getting too old to play games, so if you’re not interesting in sticking around, hit the road buddy. And sticking up for me, even when I’m wrong, is a good quality. I also like a guy who’s going to take care of himself and his body, no self-inflicted wounds or pulling crazy dangerous stunts in the name of manliness for me. Take care of yourself so you can take care of me. Kindness rates right up there, too. Kindness to everyone, but especially to me and puppies.

So, that’s my list. I haven’t really found a male character in a particular book series who makes my toes curl. But, I am a huge fan of McGarrett in Hawaii 5-0. He’s got the sarcasm thing down and he has that brooding thing perfected to a tee.

So, that’s my jumbled up “list.”

Happy Thursday – or Friday if that’s how you want to roll!

Okay, call me out on my poor blog-scheduling skills. In my weird little world, it SHOULD be Friday! McGarrett in Hawaii 5-O…Magnum P.I. in Hawaii…I see a trend going here, Patricia. Kindness is a good quality for everyone, especially to kittens. Alright, puppies too. Great list of traits and HAPPY FRIDAY!

  5. Donna Newman says:

Without a doubt Acheron from the Dark Hunter Series, his story ripped at my heart … He will be at the top of my fave heros of all time.

    anovelgathering2013(at)gmail(dot)com

    1. CJ Burright says:

Archeron sounds like my type of hero. The Dark Hunter series is another I’ve had on my TBR list for too long – thanks for commenting, Donna!

  6. Awesome list. I like #3 a lot. He has to be a man of some sort of action. Nunchucks though?

    1. CJ Burright says:

Nunchucks, Berettas, throwing stars…I’m not too picky, so long as he’s proficient with his weapon of choice (though I do admit, I’m a sword/dagger kind of girl). Glad you stopped in, Nana!

  7. Janie McGaugh says:

Vlad in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Prince books is the latest of many heroes who make my toes curl.
    jmcgaugh (at) semo (dot) edu

    1. CJ Burright says:

I’ve heard of this Vlad you speak of – in fact, I have Once Burned sitting on my shelf. Waiting. Patiently. Have a great weekend, Janie!

  8. Very good list of traits to have in a hero. #3 had me chuckling but I couldn’t agree more =)

    1. CJ Burright says:

Skills are good to have, no matter what they might be. Good luck in the hop and thanks for popping in, H.B.

  9. CJ,
I loved Wrath & Beth’s story in Dark Lover. There was just something about them that worked for me.
Kalila and Lydon from Wonderfully Wicked sound like they’ve got their work cut out for them – bet you’re excited about your upcoming release.
Thanks for the chance to hop on board the blog hop!

    1. CJ Burright says:

Aw, you’re making me all warm and fuzzy, Paula! I’m beyond excited to get Wonderfully Wicked out into the world, but patience is a virtue. So I’ve heard. 🙂 I do love Dark Lover, but my heart already belongs to Zhadist. I’m getting my hot little hands on his story today and, despite my mile-long TBR list, Dark Awakening will be plopped on top. Luckily, it’s a long weekend. So glad you joined in the hop!

  10. A recent one is Ares from Eternal Rider (Larissa Ione).

Great post! Those are some awesome books! I love JR Wards books. There so good! And nice pic of Sam and Dean. Those men are so sexy! 😀 Thank you!

    1. CJ Burright says:

Clearly, you have awesome taste in books and men. 🙂 Good luck in the hop!

  16. I love Adam, Sam, Bran, Darryl, Ben, Warren, and Kyle from the Mercy Thompson novels. Patricia Briggs writes some pretty kick-ass heroes. Oh, and I follow you on Twitter.

    tiger-chick-1(at)hotmail(dot)com

    1. CJ Burright says:

Thanks for the Twitter follow, Emily! I haven’t read any Mercy Thompson or Patricia Briggs novels – but I’ve heard of them, eyed them, thought I’d probably like them. Maybe when I’m 80 or so, I’ll catch up on all the books I want to read. Happy Sunday!

  17. Juliee Fitze says:

I liked all the guys in her books but really like Jamie Frazer in Outlander.

    1. CJ Burright says:

Love, love, LOVE Jamie Fraser! He’s had my toes curling for quite some time now – can’t wait to see the series (and cross my fingers the story doesn’t get ruined by producers). Thanks for dropping in, Juliee!

  18. Jana Leah says:

I love Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series.

    1. CJ Burright says:

Another Bones fan! And another nudge for me to read that series. 🙂 Thanks for popping in and happy Sunday!

  19. Jeannie Platt says:

Oh an alpha hero always makes my toes curl , he can be a dom, vampire, werewolf, marine, wizard whatever… As long as he makes you feel protected, loved, hot and bothered, can kick some ass if needed. I agree Eric Northman even if he can be an alpha dick sometimes but when he is good or doing something in the best interest of sookie yum(um… he is so much better then Bill… I would let him eat crackers in my bed anytime.

Thanks for being part of the hop. Follow(Like) Via FB Jeannie Baker-Platt

    1. CJ Burright says:

You nailed it, Jeannie – good, wimpy Eric sucked the big one. He’s so much better when he’s bad! And Bill who? 🙂 Thanks for the extra follow and good luck in the hop!

  20. Steph F. says:

The most recent hero I read that made my toes curl is Bones from The Nighthuntress series. So sexy, sweet, possessive and that accent is yummy. Wrath and Trehan are two of my favorites also.
