My New Favorite Holiday

Happy 2014, everyone! It’s gonna be a fantabulous year!

Back to blogging, I discovered a new holiday, which is celebrated today, January 10. An amazing festivity I can’t believe I’ve missed all these years…

PECULIAR PEOPLE DAY

While this wonderful national holiday’s origins are a bit sketchy, I’m not one to quibble over greatness. I mean, how often are we given the opportunity to honor the unique, quirky, weirdness inside? Not enough, I say! So be sure to celebrate your own oddities in your own freakish way today. Samba into a board meeting. Imitate Gomer Pyle when you order coffee. Tell your friend you love his/her strange attraction to chicken feathers.

What’s your quirk? I’ll share one of mine, if it makes you feel better:  I love villains, especially Disney villains, and even memorized the lyrics to “Cruella de Ville” from 101 Dalmations and the unbeatable “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid.  Bonus question:  what Disney character are you? Take the test here and let me know! For the record, I’m Maleficent. Pretty spot on there. 🙂

  1. Where do I start? Well, I line up my cans, bottles, etc. in the pantry and fridge so they’re even and the labels face the same way, I have a pajama fetish, and dessert always comes first.

There’s nothing weird about dessert always first, but the lining up of the cans…has your hubby seen the movie Sleeping With the Enemy? Muwahahahaha!!

  2. Apparently, I’m the evil queen, but whatever.

My favorite Disney characters are the sidekicks, most especially Louis and Ramone from The Princess and the Frog. Love those quys, but Mushu is pretty cool, too.

My quirkiness that I’m going to embrace – my sarcasm. I love my sarcasm, but so few people appreciate it.

From one peculiar person to another, I’d like to say, have a great day peculiar people day, Coleen.

Fist bump from Maleficent to Evil Queen! Sarcasm is a talent in my book, a skill to be polished until it gleams, but whatever. Some people just aren’t peculiar enough to appreciate it, I guess. Happy PP Day to you too! 🙂

  3. Great post. I find it interesting that so many people are posting their “new year” posts now, mid-month, instead of ten days ago. This is a good trend.

I admit it…I got holidayitis and my end of the year resolution was to take a short break. It was nice, but now it’s back to business, baby! Thanks for dropping in, Jamie!

YES! Want me to sing Poor Unfortunate Souls for you now? 🙂
